As Christ models for us, we model for others how to love with compassion in community. Santa Maria de la Vid Priory is at its heart a community of compassion. Since our primary ministry is to be a community, we bring a sense of community to all of our ministries. When we prevail as a loving community, those whom we touch experience a pattern that they too can model.
Unlike many religious congregations, our community does not provide a specific type of ministry rooted in a charism or tradition. Rather, we build upon our charism of communio, or community, and in turn provide the needed ministries to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe as our time and talents allow. This has led us into parish work, ministries through retreats and spiritual direction, education at both the high school and secondary levels, hospital chaplaincy, work in ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue, ministry through art, advocacy and work with social cocerns and ministry to the local immigrant community.
Although our inistries are diverse and constantly evolving and changing, below is a listing of some of our primary works in the apostolate.
"We must implement our gift of self daily in our participation in the life of the Church and the apostolic ministries: through the ministry of hearing and announcing the word of God, (the prophetic ministry), the ministry of celebrating the liturgy and consecrating the temporal order (the priestly ministry) and the ministry of building the community in charity (the kingly ministry).
These three ministries, which complement one another, are incumbent on us in the name of Christ for the life of the world. Christ, who is the apostle of our confession (cf. Hebr. 3:1), continues to exercise His mission or His prophetic, priestly and kingly ministires through His church as through a living organism. These three ministries, which make up the apostolate of our communities and of our Order, unite all men into the one community for which Christ gave His life (cf. Jo. 11:52)."
