Did you know Santa Maria de la Vid Abbey is one of the official pilgrimage sites for the Jubilee Year of Mercy? But what does that mean?
Our Archbishop John C. Wester writes:
“I also encourage the People of God of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe to visit and pray at pilgrimage churches during the Year of Mercy. Pilgrimage is a long-standing and revered practice of the Church, one that produces much fruit in the life of the pilgrim.”
A plenary indulgence may be obtained any day during the jubilee year by making a pilgrimage, individually or with others, to an officially named church and fulfilling the conditions required by the Church:
Our Holy Father Pope Francis writes:
“To live the indulgence of the Holy Year means to approach the Father’s mercy with the certainty that his forgiveness extends to the entire life of the believer. To gain an indulgence is to experience the holiness of the Church, who bestows upon all the fruits of Christ’s redemption, so that God’s love and forgiveness may extend everywhere. Let us live this Jubilee intensely, begging the Father to forgive our sins and to bathe us in his merciful “indulgence.”
