Hermitage Retreat

Come to the Desert

Discover the serenity of a holy place that speaks of God’s presence in a powerful way. The transition experience can be healthy. Set on seventy acres of desert in the south valley of Albuquerque, retreatants leave the city and the fast pace of their lives and move into quiet and solitude.

In 1995 the Norbertine Community of New Mexico moved to 70 acres in the South Valley of Albuquerque to establish a Center for Spiritual Life. The Hermitage Retreat is part of the Center and provides an opportunity to participate in a rich spiritual environment.

The Hermitage Retreat overlooks the city of Albuquerque and the Sandia/Manzano Mountains, and offers an experience of being away and removed from distraction. Glorious sunrises and sunsets and tranquil starry nights are a constant gift.

The four Hermitages of Premontre and the rooms at Bethany Guest House rooms are comfortable and welcoming. Each has a bed, comfortable chair and small desk. Cooking facilities are available in the hermitage rooms and Guest House. Retreatants are encouraged to provide their own food during their stay and spend the days in solitude and contemplation.

Common Prayer
The Norbertine Community welcomes guests and retreatants to join them for Morning and Evening Prayer. Spiritual Direction for retreatants can be arranged by appointment subject to availability of members of the community.

Arrival Time
Due to the active ministries away from the Priory on weekends, the personnel are limited. We therefore request that arrival time be arranged in advance for a weekday or Friday afternoon. This will allow us to personally greet you, familiarize you with the Center for Spiritual Life and direct you to your hermitage or room at the Guest House.

Cost
$35 per person, per night for hermitage or room at Bethany Guest House
Day Use: Bethany Guest House $100
meals are not included

“The real gft of the Center is the natural beauty
and energy of creation that has been here for many
generations. It is obvious the Norbertine Community
honors and respects this. At the same time the
spirit of love that each of you bring to this sacred
